Diversity and community at the core of our movement

32 countries from America, Europe and Asia will converge in the sixth edition of Conecta this year. A progress that fills us with joy because it places Chile as a territory for meeting and exchange of thoughts, experiences and commercialization of documentaries, series and, from this edition onwards, of non-fiction projects that travel through the languages of augmented reality.

This year is very special. New alliances have emerged with the Santiago International Documentary Film Festival FIDOCS, National Film Board, Stereopsia LATAM and Mediamorfosis; and others have been consolidated, such as Sundance Documentary Film Program, Campus Latino, DocMontevideo, DocsMX, Sofá Digital, Cineteca Nacional de Chile, R2 Media, Sonamos, FICWallmapu, BoliviaLAB and the Association of Independent Producers of Chile, API. It is important to note that without them, and without the fundamental support of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, ProChile and the sector brand Chiledoc, this meeting would not be possible.

Chile is going through a time of profound transformations. It is changing the way we see, express ourselves and relate to each other. And it is changing our own roadmap with the drafting of a new constitution, which we hope will be more loving, open and inclusive and, above all, will contribute to overcome the huge inequality gaps that exist in our country. A constitution that incorporates new and old perspectives, and that installs diversity as a way of coexistence. That same diversity that took the streets in 2019 and makes that today in Chile, respect for the multiplicity of ways of being, feeling and living, are installed as the key to our relationships.

Today, fomenting community spirit becomes indispensable in forming this new Chile. And that is precisely what we are inviting you to, with Conecta, but on a slightly larger scale: crossing borders and extending bridges between more than 32 countries in Latin America and the world. Because we believe that getting to know each other, mixing, and even confusing one with the other, is necessary for new colors, visions and richer and more heterogeneous reflections.

Diversity and fomenting community spirit are, moreover, attributes that are very characteristic of the documentary sector, not only locally, but also internationally… We are a small community that is curious to know each other, that treats each other with generosity and respect. That is the spirit we want to share at Conecta.

Affectionately,
Paola, Flor, Diego and Paula.
