The 4th edition of Conecta, International Meeting of Documentary Industry, held every year in Santiago, Chile, stands out not only for being the only event of this magnitude in the country, but also for presenting itself as an alternative that promotes sustainable development within the sector.
For this we have developed a series of actions that go along with this ecological course in order to promote environmental protection, social development and raise awareness about the current situation of the planet and life as a whole.
Flor Rubina, director of CCDoc states “From the Chilean Documentary Corporation, we highlight the importance of raising sustainable audiovisual productions, since we understand that it is everyone’s responsibility to be aware of the global challenges we face nowadays. That is why we believe it is necessary to give concrete actions in this matter with all the projects we are working on, so Conecta is a perfect instance to make this visible. Eliminating the use of plasticized papers, limiting the printing use, encouraging recycle and being careful with the territory are some of the measures that have been taken, thus promoting the care of the environment, in order to reduce the trace that affects our planet so much. ”
From online catalog to eco-friendly credentials
Like any audiovisual industry event that provides meeting points between projects and guests, it is important to create a catalog that contains all those who will participate, such as the different activities that will be carried out. However, this year this piece will not be printed, it will be an online catalog with the ideal format to navigate through it from computers, tablets or cell phones.
The credentials of the event will be in recycled and seed paper, that is to say that after their use they can be planted since they contain seeds inside. Materials that have been made in previous years such as banners, crea bags, among others, will also be reused.
Among the merchandising will be eliminated those elements that do not have a real utility and only serve as an ornament, this is how it was determined not to have corporate badges, stickers, and others; instead there will be notebooks, bags and pencils, each made with eco-sustainable materials. Likewise, the program of the event will be printed with recycled paper, leaving aside the rubber and plastics that prevent the correct degradation of this raw material.
Solar Screen
One of Conecta’s important activities is the free and outdoor screening of a documentary film. Lemebel will be presented for this edition, the most watched documentary in Chile in 2019. It will be shown on one of the giant screens of Ecocinema, which work with solar energy, one of the main sources of renewable energy, obtained from the use of electromagnetic radiation from the sun. Awards that promote good practices
Connect4Climate (C4C), a World Bank Group program with more than 500 partners, that promotes information on climate change, continues with its crusade to provide social and environmental awareness to the film industry, this time in collaboration with the Chilean Documentary Corporation, CCDoc.
During the 4th edition of Conecta, the internationally renowned program will grant the special Film4Climate Postproduction Award, in association with Laser Film, to one of the participant projects in the Work in Progress WIP section. The award will recognize a film that focuses on one of the 17 SDG Sustainable Development Goals, the universal call to action from the United Nations to end poverty, generate gender equality, protect the planet and ensure good development and prosperity for all.
