Synopsis

After five years away from Venezuela, Amanda (33) receives news of her father Rudy’s death. In the midst of her grief, she discovers songs he had composed that she had never heard before, which lead her back to her family, her home, and her country. From Mexico, Amanda revisits old family recordings, videos of her time in three countries, and photos from the past, which make her question the meaning of home.

Director

Amanda Pérez Contreras

(1992), Venezuelan, director and photographer. She lives in Mexico and is currently in post-production on her debut feature film UN LUGAR PARA VOLVER. She has directed the short films DE QUÉ LADO CAE MI SOMBRA (2012), RESPIRA (2014), and VIGILANTE (2016). She is the DoP for the feature film ESPECIAL (2020), by Ignacio Márquez, winner of the Best Film award at the 56th Chicago Film Festival and the Best Cinematography award at the 8th Festival de Cine de Las Alturas. She is the DoP for the feature-length documentary LO QUE NOS ILUMINA, by Yudiel Landa, currently in post-production.

Producer


(1991), Venezuelan and producer. She is currently producing UN LUGAR PARA VOLVER by Amanda Pérez. She has produced the short films EL ACUERDO (2015), DEL PLATO A LA BOCA A VECES SE CAE LA SOPA (2025), CORRESPONDENCIA X Y Y (2024), and DOS DÍAS CON SOL (2023). She was the general producer of the documentary series EL QUE NO TRANSA…(2024) by Carlos Meléndez, and the feature films SLEEPWALK (2025) by Ricardo Silva and WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE by Jake Wasserman, currently in post-production.

Video Motor is a production company founded by Stefania Innocenti Costa with the aim of being the creative engine behind the making of films. We foster an environment for experimentation, learning by doing, and overcoming the traditional barriers of cinema. Each film is born from reality and reflects a spirit of self-management and resilience. Our latest project is the documentary DEL PLATO A LA BOCA A VECES SE CAE LA SOPA (2025), which recently began its festival run.
