Synopsis

As public healthcare comes under threat, I return to Hospital Without Walls, the utopia my grandfather pioneered in Costa Rica’s mountains. Through archives and the voices of women and rural communities, I explore the contradictions of a doctor, poet and patriarch, and an enduring dream: healthcare as a right for all.

  Costa Rican anthropologist and filmmaker. Her debut, Objetos rebeldes, premiered at IDFA 2020 and won international awards. Her second feature received IDFA Bertha Fund support. She joined EURODOC’s creative production programme in 2025.

  Ferris Dobles

  Producer

  Michele Ferris Dobles is a Costa Rican filmmaker, producer and researcher. She directed the award-winning short Marea alta (2020) and produced and co-wrote Casa en tierra ajena (2016). She teaches and researches at the University of Costa Rica.
