Synopsis
Filmed over a decade, Queen of the People follows Naomy, an Afro-Colombian teen thrust into pageants by her mother and crowned queen of Cartagena’s biggest grassroots contest. As promises fade and she becomes a mother, different generations face gender roles in a city marked by sex tourism, violence, and the disappearance of women.

Filmmaker. RED FLAG competed at IDFA and was nominated for the Macondo Awards, as was TWO-SPIRIT, an IDA nominee distributed by The New Yorker. Her debut feature, SOUL OF THE DESERT, premiered at Venice, won the Queer Lion, and later screened globally before theatrical runs in Colombia and Brazil.
Producer
He has curated for FICCI, FICICA, SIMA, with films at GdA, IDFA, DOC NYC, Palm Springs, and Sheffield. He joined TFL, MeetThem, and BAM. Producer of El Placer de Escaparse del Mundo, High Aims, Two-Spirit, Red Flag, and Soul of the Desert (Queer Lion, Venice). Director of the Cinemateca del Caribe.
