Synopsis

In the Copacabana Fishing Colony, an enclave of resistance in Brazil’s most iconic neighborhood, time seems to stand still. Even today, Marimbás returns to the place where Vladimir Herzog filmed a pioneering documentary in 1963 that listened to the people. Sixty years later, it finds echoes in the new marimbás. An essay on listening, permanence, and the tragic—sometimes hopeful—rhymes of Brazil.
