Synopsis
Set in La Guajira, «The Wind’s Thirst» follows leaders Misael, Tita, and Jazmine as they resist 35 years of coal mining and the threat of wind turbines on Wayuu land. Mining has ravaged 600 km² and displaced 60,000 indigenous people. As green corporations proceed without consultation, Wayuu leaders fight to protect their rights and territory.
Director
Arawak artist Alejandro Valbuena, a prominent 1st AD, has worked on films showcased at Berlinale, TIFF, and Sundance. His project «»The Wind’s Thirst,»» won the Breakthrough pitch at Hot Docs 2023 and secured a CBC deal. He is a Eurodoc, Doc Institute, and EFM ToolBox alumnus.
Producer
Vanessa Caceres is a trilingual film producer with an Industrial Engineering background. Her notable works include “Carjacking,” “Generation Wolf,” and “Undocumented.” She participated in SundanceCollab, ReelWorld’s fellowship, and is supported by TelefilmCanada, CMF, and the Harold Greenberg Fund.
