Synopsis
Barcelos, a small municipality with the highest femicide rate in Brazil, is situated along the Rio Negro, lost amidst the idyllic landscape of the Amazon Rainforest. The documentary The Bag of the Night will experimentally portray the presence of ghosts of women and girls who, though deceased, continue to inhabit this piece of land.
Director
Janaina is a visual artist and filmmaker whose work critically examines how humans impose systems of order and control upon their surroundings. She is currently a PhD student at Le Fresnoy-Studio. Her latest short film,Curupira and the Machine of the Destiny, won Best Film at Festival do Rio.
Producer
Luana has made over twenty films as producer and executive producer, working from the project’s development to its release. As a partner at Anavilhana, she produces and co-produces shorts, features, and installations. Her films have been screened and awarded at important film festivals in Brazil and internationally.
